When attempting to upgrade from Vista Home Premium (32bit) to Vista Ultimate (32bit) can an upgrade error - upgrade fails. The Vista Upgrade advisor tells me that the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT will not work in Windows Vista:-
"This device will not work in Windows Vista. For more information, please go to the device manufacturer's website, Windows Marketplace, or contact your retailer."
How can I proceed to upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate?
Is this just a Vista Ultimate upgrade issue or is this display adapter truly not supported on Vista (even though I have a HP Pavilion laptop with one installed running Vista Home Premium).
..by the way, I have just updated driver to latest version from NVIDIA (8.15.11.8585 Dated 30/04/2009) and tried upgrade advisor again - still no good!
hmm..it should definitely upgrade...you sure the graphics card is the only problem? i know vista says thats the only problem, but there might be something else
I was running Vista Ultimate x64 with my 8800GT so I doubt very much the 9600GT couldn't but, could it be that your video drivers are very old, hence, the issue with Vista?
I have ABOUT the same card and upgraded the same as you (except x64 to x64) It gave me a BSOD ann I had to start in safe mode, and install the newest driver for Vista from there. It now works fine....it's only been 3 minutes though. I would try that I guess. Worked for me.
I have a 9500 GT and had the driver on a CD. Just to clarify. It's working great now....
I really hope this helps you. I just went through the same issue.
Another thing you must check is if you are also running a x64 bit driver for your monitor, otherwise, it may give you problems later on... mostly when playing games though (IIRC).
