Radeon HD3450

I have a Radeon HD3450 and installed the new direct x10 and when I restart my comp, the Catalyst Program fails, it says it won't respond. I did a system restore to before Direct x10 was installed and it works fine. I am talking the latest update for dx10. Any suggestions?

9c sould do everything ok......... or if you have a little money to spend you can get a HD3870 for $99.99 right now....

Do you have SP1 installed/ I have a 3450 and I have DirectX10 but only after having SP1 installed.

Uhhh...unless I missed something???....Directx10 is native to Vista, with or without SP1. DX10=Vista.

As to why the DX10 error after updating??? Hmmm...that's a new one.

That's not what I meant. I mean maybe he's having a problem with it not having SP1 assuming he doesn't have it. I'm sure he does but before I had SP1, my wei assessment didn't recognize having 10, only 9. Until I installed SP1 with Dx 10.1 did it recognize it. Maybe not having SP1 could be causing a problem is all I'm saying. But again, I'm sure he has it, just a possibility.

Maybe I didn't understand this statement, but -

You are correct, not having SP1 might be causing problems; I agree with you, I’m just saying the notion of getting DX10 only after installing SP1 is false, Vista starts out with DX10. It's backwards compatible with DX9. SP1 might be updating some DX10 files though. :)

Yeah, I didn't word it right. I meant it didn't correctly recognize it for me until SP1 was installed is what I should of said.

Just to clarify I have SP1 installed I have dx10 installed, but when I went to do the latest upgrade from the microsoft website for the newest dx10 is when it crashed.

When you say it crashed, what do you mean? Can you provide a screenshot. And what link are you using to update your DX files? Can you paste it here?

I'm confused - You say "just the Radeon catalyst control center would crash." yet you send me a link to direct x downloads???

So is it that you can't get direct x to update, or that the catalyst control center is crashing?

Please clearify.

DX updates - If you couldn't get the DX files to update using the link you provided, try this one - Download details: DirectX Redist (November 2008). Download and install. For some reason people had a hard time getting the link you provided to update their DX files, thus the one I provide, but if your link worked, then you don't need to do another DX update.

But I still need clearification of what is is you did?

Ok let's thry this again. I put the link there cause you asked for the link. And when I downloaded off that link my control center then crashed for the video card. I cannot get the screen shot because I did a system restore to the time before I downloaded the newest DX10. Hopefully that clears it up for you.

I would then suggest you reload the catalyst software. Be aware that 9.1's are out now. Get them from ATI.

Were the old drivers from ATI or the PC manufacture? Also, is this a laptop were talking about? If so, you may need to get your drivers form the laptop manufacturer.

The original were form ATI. It came with the card. The computer is a desktop, but the computer need a low profile video card thats why i went with this card.

Then yeah, you should be using the Cat drivers. Try the 9.1's?
