Hi.

I brought a newPC in March this year. My system is

CPUIntel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2400 MHz

Graphics CardATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2

BIOSPhoenix Technologies LTD

ChipsetnForce Memory Controller nForce Memory Controller NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller

MotherboardMicrosoft ISATAP Adapter

Network CardMicrosoft Tun Miniport Adapter NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

OS Vista 32 Homepremium.

I got a Nvidia 8400GS When i got the PC but brought a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 / 1GB / PCI Express 2.0 / Graphics Card. My brother took out the Nvid card and then formated the PC to make sure that all drivers where uninstalled then put the ATI card in. In divice manager under dispaly adapters there is standard VGA Graphics Adapter and further down the page there is "Other Divices" with Video controller. When it installs these some times the standard VGA Graphics Adapter fail but the video controller succeed but with error. saying. "Incompatable display Adapter has been disabled. At least one display adapter on the system has been disabled because its not compatible with the driver for the VGA adapter". lso i carnt change the resolution above 1024X768.

Also my Graphic card is a Sapphier brand but in the windows update its looking for ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ASUS EAH3870X2 Series

Can anybody help please.

Thanks

Re: Graphics card/drivers.

BTW my ATI Graphics card is a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 / 1GB / PCI Express 2.0 / Graphics Card

Could the standard graphics card be my on board graphics card and thats getting confused or conflict with the ATI?

What does it say in the device manager about the other devices. Also try and update the driver for that.

In "Other Divices" it says Video Controller and in "Display Adapters" it says standard VGA Graphics Adapter

when i go to properties in Device Manager it gives me this

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. (But no solution)

Also can you find out what your stanard VGA graphics card is and is there away to turn it of?

Hey Skipper,

Let windows update do its thing, it is after all only the driver not the name that is needed and see what happens

Re: Graphics card/drivers.

More than likely, your brother did not uninstall the drivers for the nVidia he removed, so those drivers are still trying to mess with the system.

Use Driver Sweeper to remove all video related drivers and start from scratch. As for letting Windows Update do it - only if you want older drivers - check the ATI site and make sure that the newer drivers don't fix something specific for your card.

EDIT: Added the following:

BTW, please don't post the same issue in multiple forums. As you can see, more than one person has replied, and you'll get conflicting information.

Well the TV is going back as on play.com on one review of the TV another person as said that using HDMI worked for a bit but then decided to stick at 800X600 max resolution. Also he tried sevral cards on other PC's and all same. So the TV is going back as this is what i realy got it for. Even if it wasnt what i got it for it would be going back as the TV is not 100% working and there for something else might be wrong with the TV.

serach this on play.com

Toshiba Regza XV Series 32" 32XV505 HD 1080p Freeview Widescreen LCD TV

I got mine from comet though. and only had it 8 weeks.

Also, Driver Sweeper is to be run from *SAFE MODE* not from regular mode.

You may still need to right click and Run As... Administrator.

Hi found new problem

I keep getting a code 43 error message in the display manager and this is what i think it is. AMD Customer Care

I know it says contact Nvidia I carnt get any email adress its just phone numbers ive seen and that will cost a packet. but though i would ask 1st. Ive also put this in the ATI
forums.

Im realy getting angry and going to frow my PC out of the window soon im getting

please help me out.

My Computer

Ive found out the problem its my mother board and the nvidia chipset drivers not reconizing the ATI card. I was going to buy another mother board but i think it easyer to buy an nividia graphics card.

So from my spec whats the mid to high range nvidia card i can get which i can suport HDMI and have 1080p Also my PSU is a 1000WAT.i dont want to go over £200 and if possible around £160 for the graphics card

Thanks..

What about this one

Exactly what i was thinking running through the posts - Nvidia Mainboard has Nvidia Video card = Not ATI compatible :)

Yup well its about time ATI and Nvidia worked to gether to make Graphics cards work on both AMD and Nvidia chipsets. I think both would still if not make more money.

ive seen these 2 graphics card but whats the difference apart from the + sign and price.

BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC / 512MB / PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card £124.99p

BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ OC / 512MB / PCI Express 2.0 x16 / Graphics Card £159.99p

I think i might get the £124.99 one next month and 6 month later get another the same and SLI it if the first one works. depending whats the difference.

My Computer

SLI will only give you marginal increases in performance but worth having ago if you feel like spending the cash, most single cards can play games and movies just fine so there is no real need to spend too much money on a card also look around the sites for the same card cheaper.

just a small note for you though as you've already found out the hard way, check compatabilty before you buy a product ATI and Nvidia cards will never run on the same chipsets because of the different way they run code and chip architecture is vastly different from both manufacturers.

good luck in all your future ventures.

Hi all. I hope this helps because everything is working perfectly for me since I did this. Firstly I used to pull my hair out like all of you here until I did this. I would download the latest driver whatever it was at the time, and then the trouble would begin, as you all know so I won’t go into any of them because they bring back to many bad memories,SO,eventually I would get the latest driver and the latest ccc to install after the usual install uninstall install blah blah, trying every forum, spending hours looking for help, reading everybody else’s probs and getting side tracked all over the place like I am now, {Sorry} Any way After the two of them would install they were never right ,there was always something or other the matter, this won’t work, that won’t work ,this game won’t start etc, etc,so what I did was this ,after installing the latest driver and ccc go to the site that you bought your actual graphics card from like ASUS or whatever it might be and download and install all the drivers for the card and this is IMPORTANT. All of the utility drivers for the utilities that you installed or are installed on your pc from the motherboard manufacturer. In my case it was go to ASUS site and download all for my P5E3 Deluxe Wi FI @P and just install them on to your pc .don’t do anything fancy like uninstalling the older ones or using any progs to do it for you ,just reboot and everything should be ok.Now I have done this for the last 2 ati drivers and it has worked for me so I can’t see why it won’t work for you but I hope it does .Sorry for being so long winded but with all this free time I have now not having to fix my machine .................................ahem,
