Boot disk failure and 4gb wont work.

Ok here is my dilemma. I have just made the switch to a new intel machine. The first problem is i cant get it to install with 4gb (had to remove one module) but i have found a patch that i will try and report back.

The main drama at the moment is after the fresh install i take out the vista installation cd and restart after doin afew things and I cant load into windows.
I get the
BOOT DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND HIT ENTER :eek:

I tried restarting many a times, then i put the installation disk in and restarted and it works as per normal except I can see the os selection prompt and it has Windows Vista listed three times (this is a fresh install, so there is definately no dual booting goin on here)

So for some unknown reason my pc need the installation disk inserted to load the os from my hard disk.

My PC specs are as follows.
ASUS P5N32-SLI
C2D E6850
2gb (have 4gb but cant use the extra 2 just yet)
2x WD Raptor 150s in Raid 0 config

Please someone explain how i fix this issue cause its very annoying.

Ok i fixed the issue of the two extra failed instances of vista by going into msconfig and removing them and making changes permanent.

But still need the installation disk to boot :cry:

Still no work around for the cd boot problem.

But i downloaded the patch and am now running 4gb and it seems fine.
Here it is for anyone whom needs it.
Error message when you try to install Windows Vista on a computer that uses more than 3 GB of RAM: "STOP 0x0000000A"
make sure you install the right version for your OS 32 or 64 bit

Hi Grimace,

Do you have more than one partition on your hard drive with Vista. If so, make sure that the partition that has Vista on it is set as the Primary Boot partition.

1. Administatrative Tools
2. Disk Management or (Disk Management in Computer Management)

Shawn,

Mate i checked out the disk managment and its drive C: and it claims it has boot, page file, crash dump and primary partition.

But one of my other drives has Active and none of the rest have it.

So i thought id make my c drive active and now when i reload its the same only i get a different message

Now the message is;
BOOTMNR missing
pres CTRL+ALT+DLT to restart

I am thinking about deleting all partitions (everything is backed up)
And starting again from square one.

I only have one partition and it has (System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) listed if this helps you any.

I hate to say it, but it may be easier or faster to reinstall since you have everything backed up.

Yeah i am gonna try one thing first.

For some reason my D:/ (media) drive has been labeled as active and has a bootsect file on it.
So windows thinks this is an important system drive (hence why its labeleled as active and not just a primary partition).
I cant format it from the disk manager because of this but I can remove the bootsect file and reload and if I cant format after that I will try in safe mode.

In failing this I have already got everything backed up and ready fr yet another reinstall :D

One more thing I thought of. Check your BIOS settings to make sure you have the correct hard drive selected first in the boot order.

Mate I had everything correct and I did end up having to do a re install.
I found out that its a common vista flaw.

Yeah I can try get a tutorial made up will be rather simple thou. As all that has to be done is disconnect the other HDDs :D
