Vista64 messed up my PC

I failed to flash my BIOS through Windows Vista 64 (Asus Update), now the update program cannot see any BIOS, so on attempting to start the PC again, I think it will be dead.

Thanks Microsoft.

This OS is a complete joke.

My Vista 64 Nightmare List:

4GB Flash will not work (Asks for driver which does not exist)
Music Keyboards don't have Vista 64 Drivers
Vista 64 will not shut down correctly (Shutting down screen freezes)
Vista 64 gives cannot locate link for Firefox shortcuts (But Firefox loads with page)
Vista 64 will not recognise my Creative Zen
Vista 64 will not recognise my Motorola Phone
Memory.dll error with Battlefield 2 on high settings

And the BEST till last - Failed and Corrupted BIOS Update- Bye Bye PC

The BIOS is your own fault.

You should never flash your BIOS through windows.. Either use a flash utility and bios on a floppy disk or key drive or use the built in motherboard flashing utility (Asus Mobos) and the bios on a CD to flash.

Don't blame windows for that. Also, you should have done more research on the things that you currently use before you upgraded to Vista to see if they are Vista-compatible. You should have made sure by going to the manufacturer's website for everything in your PC to see if they were Vista ready.

Hi whyteo,

The BIOS is written by the manufacturer of the motherboard or BIOS flash chip. It is their responsibility to make sure it works on Vista. Then it is your responsibility to make sure you have the correct version of the BIOS for your specific motherboard model and Vista version. You can not use a 32 bit flash program on 64 bit Vista. It must be specifically writen for 64 bit Vista not 32 Vista or it will fail. You might check back at the motherboards website to see if by luck they have a BIOS recovery program that you can use to reflash your BIOS, and fix it hopefully. If you didn't build your own computer, you might be able to take it back to where you got it and have them do it for a small price.

Vista on itself does have a few quirks. However, the majority of the problems people are having with Vista are all coming down to the device drivers or programs that are not fully compatible with Vista. XP and Vista are two completely different beasts, and XP's programs do not always play nice with Vista.
