Weird Boot error

So here is my problem,
when i boot up my computer the only way i can get into vista (home prem) is to have boot device option (in the bios) set to CD ROM and have my vista CD in the drive.

If i have it set to hard disk (which vista is completly installed and updated) or if i dont have the vista cd in i get a boot error asking me to insert a system boot disk. Why?

Here is my system:
Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus
Intel Core 2 E6400 (stock)
2gb OCZ DDR2 800
BFG 8800 GTX OC
Creative X-fi Fatal1ty

Primary Hard drives: 2 Seagate Barracuda 500Gb Raided together (stripe) and then partitioned into 200Gb (vista) 100Gb (XP, not installed yet) 600Gb Storage
Im thinking that my computer doesnt know to look for the boot file in the partition ive set for vista for some reason with out the cd in.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Keaton,

Not real sure, it can be several things that may be the cause. I would check and see if you have the latest Motherboard chipset drivers, BIOS, Raid drivers, etc. available for Vista. Also, make sure that the drives are set as your boot drives in their partition settings.

I figured out what was wrong, ill post just in case someone else goofs up like this.

When i installed vista, i had all my other hard drives enabled (which i forgot to mention in my post), i have an external 500Gb and a 200 Gb internal which i use for storage. Vista saw the 200Gb as disk 0, my raid as disk 1, and the external as disk 2, thus this set the "system" identity on the 200Gb and the "boot" on the raid, therefore, the bios was looking for the boot file on the system disk, and it wasnt there.

the unfortunate solution (the only one i could figure out). A complete reformat of the drive you want your OS to go on and install vista with all other drives disabled (just pull the cable before boot up).
