I recently got this vista machine. Nifty, I think.
So I restore to factory condition F11 key.
I couldn't do anything until I used cmd>w32tm commands to synchronize time then updates began etc...
But in event logs ----ERROR---- in the logs...
------------------------------
Time Provider NtpClient: This machine is configured to use the domain hierarchy to determine its time source, but it is not a member of a domain. NtpClient will attempt to use an alternate configured external time source if available. If an external time source is not configured or used for this computer, you may choose to disable the NtpClient.
-------------------------------
Sounds simple so I google how to join a domain
1. cmd>sysdm.cpl which brings up system properties and the instructions say
2. click change the name and to my shagrin I get this message:
You can change the name and workgroup membership of this computer.
You cannot join a computer running Windows Vista Home Premium to a domain.
==========
So I have a feeling I set my time inappropriate methods and tools.
Used whatever I came across really not knowing what I was doing ... Now I have the aforementioned error message. I cannot understand why no one mentions this with regards to time. I must be accidentally configured for an office scenario. Can I just disable the NtpClient? And how do I do that anyway?
Do I need to make other changes with w32tm or regedit? Sorry really difficult questions most people never face but looking at how many people have problems with updating it sure seems crazy this point is not mentioned in forums.
