Unable to search for update help.

Hi,

I would like to know how come every time when i search for update. There is no ending to it? When i tried to update my window defender, the update just won't start or even end..

Whats wrong actually?

There have been reports that manually downloading and installing this is a solution: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51871.

I wonder how far behind you are on Windows Updates? There will be more updates on Tuesday, so good luck catching up. Since you are trying to update Windows Defender, I assume that Microsoft Security Essentials is not installed, is that correct?

I am using other virus protection so i normally turn off window defender.

Up till now i am still not able to search for updates. Is this normal? Should i download it manually from the above link?

Yes, try manually installing KB3145739 today. The problem will only get worse tomorrow. See the final pages of the link provided by townsbg for further explanation.

I only asked about Microsoft Security Essentials because many MSE users running Vista had serious issues with a February MSE update.
