Hello all. First post here for me and I’ve got a question about Vista Ultimate x64 that I have not been able to find an answer for in any search I’ve done online or here on this forum. I’ve been messing with this now for a few months but still don’t have a “fix” for it.
The problem I have is two of the many functions that Vista does automatically at boot up, ie, analyze and defrag on hard drives. If Vista was the only drive I have in my system these wouldn’t be a problem but that’s not the case. This is a multi-boot system with 8 bootable hard drives including XP, Vista, 7, 10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17.2. The two Linux distros are on two different Solid State Drives so that leaves 4 SATA and two IDE bootable drives for the different Windows versions.
So the problem is that every time I boot into Vista my system is slowed down by Vista analyzing EVERY Windows drive in this system?? And please don’t tell me that this can be stopped in the GUI because it CAN’T, been there, done that without success! I was able to completely disable defrag by deleting the 3 files from the Sysytem32 directory that control that part but I’m at a loss as to how to stop Vista from running the analyze part on ALL those drives each time it’s booted?? I defrag Vista when needed using the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 system that’s also installed on this computer.
So can someone tell me what can be done to stop the analyze function from running at boot on Vista before I pull the rest of my hair out trying to figure it out myself?
Thanks
