Setting Permissions to prevent files from being deleted

In the folders security settings, I check the deny modify box, but it makes all the below boxes checked too. I just want to be able to read from the folder & its sub files but not have them deleted too.

Please help

on security tab select "ADVANCED" then go to "authorizations"...then click on "Change Authorizations" then select the user which yoy want to deny deletion of your folder and click on "Modify". Then make "delete" and "Delete folders" Deny. Then click on "ok":D

Most users have no reason to change permission on files. That said you need to be very careful in changing permissions or you can find your programs or even your system unusable. I strongly suggest that you do not change the permissions for SYSTEM. Note that other admins will also be able to change permissions. Best practice is to not use the "Deny" option unless it is necessary. It is usually best to remove unwanted permissions rather than use Deny. The problem is Deny overrides other security settings and can cause serious problems unless you really understand what you are doing. Normally you would never alter settings that effect system accounts.
