Solved I got the Cisco DPC3825, it has the same url as my D-link

My internet provider send me the Cisco DPC3825 modem. It has the factory password and user name. When I tried to go to the URL
http://192.168.01 to change those, my d-link router log-in page came up. How can I keep those two apart with a separate user name and password? If I where to use the given username and password, would that eliminate my d-link log-in page.

Your computer is connected only to the Cisco?
If you run the command "ipconfig" it will display the default gateway address, such as 192.168.0.1 .
What browser are you using?
I'm just guessing here, but try clearing the browser cache, then try to login again.

Right now I am still connected to the D-Link router and then the old Modem. I wanted to change the user name and password, but the URL is the same as the one for the D-Link router. So, I am concerned that once I install the new modem that if I enter first the factory user name and password setting to enter my own, that it will over ride my user name and password for the D-Link router. Or would I get to see a different page for the new modem once it is installed?

Okay...
once you connect to the new Cisco, you don't have to worry about anything in the D-link being changed or affected.
You will see a Cisco login page. Any changes you make will be stored in the new modem/router/gateway device.
During the first use, it may run a setup routine to initialize your service provider settings, this may include changing the 192.168.0.1 to something else, like 192.168.1.xxx, I don't know what the xxx will be.
Possibly your provider has given you a name to type into the browser address, rather than the raw numbers?
After the setup, you could still run the "ipconfig" command to determine the numbers for the default gateway address.

Thanks, I shall replace the modem tomorrow, maybe I worried prematurely.
I did not get a name to type in, just the modem which had the URL on a sticker.

I hooked up the new modem, but it did not connect to the internet. I re-installed the old one for now and see if I can get help from my ISP.

Seems like your provider did not give you instructions on how to install and setup your gateway device.

Like I said, when I replaced my device (long time ago), I didn't get any instructions either, but I was able to access the gateway screens, establish a gateway system password, and start a setup wizard. The wizard asked for a member id and password, and performed the configuration. After which, the internet worked fine.

I do not have the gateway service. With the old Motorola modem I have the D-Link D1R-628 router. would there be any benefit to install the new(er) modem?

I have just contacted my ISP, and they replied that if I have no issues with dropped speeds, that I could wait with the replacement. Alternatively they would make it work. Apparently one can not have two wireless modems for one internet connection.
When I simply replaced the unit, they were supposed to end the service at the old modem first.

Thank you very much for your help, my ISP has solved the problem by first de-activating the Motorola modem and then activated the Cisco modem. It would have been nice if they had include an explanation with the modem.
