Solved Saving Your Work

Kind of a stupid question perhaps, but something I've always wondered about: Where is the best place to save something? For example, I compose music. I usually just save my projects to the C drive, but I saw something recently where it's best to save in folders for security reasons. Any truth to this?

Hello mdiemer,

I find that anything important is better kept saved on a separate hard drive. Either external or internal. In addition, keep good backups.

This way if Windows goes south, it doesn't take your data with it, and the backups help in case of hard drive failure.

I do that, in fact I save on an external and then another computer, and then on Carbonite. What I was asking is, is your stuff more vulnerable security-wise if it's just out in the open on C, as opposed to in a folder where you might need admin privileges?

It wouldn't make any difference between being saved in C or a folder.

You could encrypt the drive that you are saving your data on for better security.
