can vista be installed over xp media center edition 2005?

What happens if you boot XP, then put the Vista DVD in? It should start the install.

It does depend on which version of Vista you are trying to use. XP Media Center is XP Pro based so you need Vista Pro or Ultimeate I believe.

I thought the same thing. but it does nothing. the dvd never loads, I double click the icon and nothing is there.

I put the dvd in, and the dvd rw drive dont even see it. the disc wont load/show up. :/ weird.

changed bios to boot from the dvd. in bios I chose boot from cd. deselected the hard drive. then on booting I get:

No boot device available.

so it's not booting from the dvd.

now the dvd loads. I open setup, and get errors.

"the file "autorun.dll could not load or is corrupt. setup can not continue. error code is [0xc1]

"setup.exe bad image. the application or DLL E:sources/SPWIZENG.DLL is not a valid windows image. please check this against your installation diskette".

dont have a diskette. I have the dvd. ??? beats me.

bought it on ebay. does have some scratches on it so maybe thats why its not loading? other cds work so the drive seems to be fine.

Try following the instructions at the link I posted. I know that works, I've done it many times.
