Automatic Restore Points No Longer Being Created In System Restore On Vista Laptop

Automatic restore points are no longer being created in System restore on Vista laptop.
Manually created restore points disappear after a short time.
The following are the figures relating to System Restore;
Used Shadow Copy storage space 0 B
Allocated Shadow Copy storage space 0 B
Maximum Shadow Copy storage space 3 GB
Every time I try to increase the allocation the Maximum storage space increases but not
the allocation, and I get a message saying
Successfully resized the Shadow Copy storage association.
Would appreciate any help.

Ran Disk Chk.
Took a little over an hour.
Created manual restore point.
Still there, although they have been disappearing after a while.
Will keep an eye on it and let you know how it is goes.

Good luck. The only other things that come to mind are a) certain software defragmenters have been known to react badly with restore points for some reason, b) some registry cleaners are known to cause the issue, and c) if you multi-boot with XP in the equation - XP will wipe your restore points out as it doesn't recognize them.

Hi.
I don't use reg cleaners and I don't multi boot, so that eliminates two
of the three.
Restore point is still holding and I will keep you posted.
Hopefully it is solved.

The restore point didn't hold as you said it did previously?

I wish I could help but as I multi-boot and mine works, for now at least, I really don't know the answer.

Download the free version of Macrium Reflect, it will image your C Drive, which in my opinion is better than the Windows backup.

My two cents worth :)

I may well have to do that, but my first preference would be for
System Restore and I hope to eventually get it working.
Can't understand why it stopped working.
Worked fine for years.
