Solved ffdshow.. What is it ?

I have just started up the laptop in the last 10 minutes, and I get a warning. Looks very official as though it is from Windows. Problem with video playback. It relates to ffdshow. Rather than download i ignored it, and now checking in Vista Forums, looks like others have had problems with ffdshow.
Was I right to ignore it, or is it connected with Microsoft and Vista ?

ffdshow is a video codec package to play/transcode/stream video and audio.

Depending where the pop-up came it may be okay.

Patonb, I do not know where it came from, it just popped up on the screen whilst I was at other sites. I was about to download, when my instinct told me not to, - previous experiences with UniBlue, and start.my search dial. They took some sorting out to get rid of. As I say I have searched in here and other members have come across it.

It is reputable, but it was an ad, like those, "Fix Registry Error Now" type. I used ffdshow with my mediaserver program to switch things for streaming.
So if you didn't download it, then don't worry.

Patonb, Thanks for that. Looks like the best course of action with any such thing popping up, study it closely, be wary, and don't jump in.
