After thorough files cleanup and reg/disk defrag and deleting all but one(latest)SR, I was baffled to notice I lost 8 GB's of free space(instead of gaining). In search of the missing free space, I ran across a user never seen before: TrustedInstaller. It owns everything. Totally. It owns me.

What the heck is it? How did it get in my Vista system?

This is my 5th year with this Vista Home Premium and I never saw this user TrustedInstaller ...until just today. And it seems it's the boss. I mean it owns just about every file I know I used to own...and tweak. Granted, I got into trouble a few times before for over-tweaking...but what happened? I can hardly tweak anything anymore. Whose idea is this?

Does this have anything to do with the missing 8GB's of free space?

Everyone with Vista has the trustedinstaller. The 8 GB is most likely restore points.

I am down to one(latest) SR...it usually is around 1 GB.

The TrustedInstaller account was first introduced in Vista and is also in Windows 7 and Windows 8. It is a part of the Windows Resource Protection system designed to protect critical system files from unauthorized modification. This has been a problem of long standing in Windows systems. The critical system files are owned by the TrustedInstaller account and by default is the only account that can modify them. This goes a long way in protecting these files. There is a procedure that administrators can follow to manage these files if necessary. But you had better know what you are doing.
