Solved Windows 7 cpu constantly at 100%

Hi, I have an Acer 5532 and it's starting to annoy me big time. Task manager performance constantly at 100% and this can happenwhen I am not doing anything. I do not want to have to use one of those wonder fixes for the registry which cost a bloody fortune.On looking at the processes which are usually around the 80 mark I notice a lot of them have a *32 beside them.Now I am assuming this means 32bit ?, thing is , there is a 64bit processor on this laptop why is it running 32bit. (4 gig ram)iexplore.exe*32 etc.No big spread sheets excel etc.This problem is really annoying as it causes the pc to hang until ready.I believe this is quite common but what is causing it - heat maybe ??????Any help would be appreciated before I take a club hammer to it........lol

What is the name of the processes consuming the most CPU? Does it do this in safe mode? Have you scanned your hard drive with your antivirus software?

In addition to what Townsbg has said, I would also say that if the computer works fine in safe mode, try performing a clean boot and check if the computer is working fine.

Please try the steps and write back with results.

Hi thanks for your input.I have not tried this in safe mode i will now.Presumably safe mode will use less processing?
I have run my nortons anti virus several times,but not a full scan just a quick scan.

In taskmanager, taskmanager, along with system idle process, and possibly NT kernel & system, are using most processing power.
No other apps are running.I What does the *32 indicate , I assume 32 bit. This is a 64 bit system.

the reason for the 32 bit apps is because most windows programs are 32bit not 64, so it has to be wrapped like that.

If you continue here, I'd lke to see a screen shot of your task manager sorted by cpu % showing what is using everything.

Disregard system idle process. It is the percentage of the cpu cycles that aren't being used. In other words if 60% of the processor is in use system idle process will show 40%. Is there anything using high levels of CPU?

Please try running a full scan with your antivirus as well as malwarebytes. Also try safe mode. There are less processes that run in safe mode.

Sorry for size.What is your method for screenshot resize. I just control + print screen - in paint control v then go to resize to enlarge then save. A bit ignorant sorry. Tell me a better way.
