I can use F11 to access System Recovery, and the first step is formatting the hard drive. It stays on that screen for at least 15 minutes with the completion pct never moving off 0%. It eventually errors with a 1002 msg, saying I should contact HP for support. Right!!!
If I use a Vista 64 CD (not from HP - an iso image I downloaded and burnt using another computer), I'm on the green and blue Vista screen (after I press any key to boot from CD, and after it finishes loading Windows) for just over 8 minutes (I actually timed it - twice) with no writing or images on the screen - just a cursor, before it gives me a BSOD

As for your system how much memory does it have? If you don't have at least 2 gb more than likely it will be slow.
