dban drive wipe?

hi

if i were to use dban to wipe my HDD when it comes to re-installing windows OS will i need to 1st get the drivers for the HDD or just (select boot from cd or usb in bios) then install win OS in the usual way. on the cleaned drive

Hi billybellfoot,

To install Operating System on the computer, generally hard drive driver would not be required.

Ensure that the hard drive is getting detected in the BIOS and select boot from CD/USB follow the instructions to install the Operating System on the computer.

thanks again for your continued support much appreciated.

ok so if i completley wipe the HDD i should just be able to boot fom OS cd as per usual and install OS onto the drive is that right.?

the reason i am thinking of wiping with dban is i want to delete all partitions before clean install. i have C:winOS D:data and a hidden EISA configuration partition. howver when i format to re-install i can only format extend or delete D and C not the hidden eisa one. is dban my best bet or is another way quicker or easier

Hi billybellfoot,

It is advisable to use the Operating System disc to delete the partitions which are hidden also.

thanks for reply i have previously tried the method you suggested however it only reccognised my C:winOS and my D:data partitions. it did not show my hidden EISA configuration partition.?

is there another way to remove this partition?

or should i just use DBAN to wipe the drive?

how long does DBAN take to do one pass. say per GB (160GB) drive

and is that secure enough for most home users when re-cycling or selling a pc/laptop

sorry i think we are crossed wires.

i mean to say theere is a quck option that only completes 1 pass ..

just writes ones and zeros over the disc wich should be enough formy home user needs.

ratther than the next shortest option wich completes 3 passes

Unless you are in the CIA, one pass is sufficient. In my mind, a format would be fine.

that was my thinking that one pass would write 1s and 0s over my data rendering it pretty useless to anyone. but mainly want to use it to clean my drive of all partitions including hidden ones that windows installation does not recognise when installing windows.

i was just wondering how long the shortest method 1 pass would take say per GB (160GB = ??? hrs)
