Hi, I thought that Vista don't have auto cleanup of icons which are not usefor more than 60 days, but my icons mainly shortcuts a gone and I can’trestore. I try restore from system backup but not much luck. I did have sameissue with my XP and did have program which will allow restoring missing iconsbut can’t find anywhere. If some who knows how to restore missing icons (I can’tremember what shortcuts I did have so no go for me to go and manually recreate eachshortcut (icon)

First if using a registry cleaner or optimizer discontinue use.
Then lets try to restart explorer, click on alt cntrl and delete at the same time
When task manager comes up, go to process tab, and then end explorer, not internet explorer.
If that does not work, try an SFC.

Thanks Richard, after running SFC what should happen? rebuild the cache again?

The SFC will give a report. It will show corruption in Vista. If it shows errors that it cannot fix run 3 times.
