sfc performed how to find results?

i performed sfc scan on my desktop.. is there a way of being able to find weather or not the sfc scan did anything?

i followed the instructions and i got a little sfc txt file ppear on my desktop but when i opened it it is blank? did i do something wrong?

Run the SFC again and then try to get the CBS log.

Actually the CBS log will say the same that you told me already. No errors were found.

LOl it is getting confusing
Run the SFC again. It takes only a few minutes. Stay and watch. If it finds no errors you will see that. If errors are found we need to worry about the log to see what the errors are.

the cmd lne sf / scan now

has just finished it says it did not find any integrity violations?

does that mean all is good? or should i check cbs log any way?

because last night i ran sfc scan on this system and it said it found something within like 10 seconds and needed to be retarted so i did that but windows updates happened at same time and failed so did not seee anything regarding the sfc scan during reboot?

The log will say the same thing. What is means is that Vista is not corrupt in any significant way.

The emphasis here is on 'significant'. The system file checker checks against the so called mirror that contains copies of the most important system files. And if there are no discrepencies, it finds no problems.

BUT, that is not a complete set of system files. There can still be some that are corrupted that have no mirror. Those can only be fixed with a repair/install using the installation disc which has a full set of all system files.

It should, however, be understood that this pertains only to the system. Applications that were installed later (e.g. Office or OEM applications) are not part of that procedure because their files are neither in the mirror nor on the installation disc.

I think that if it cant fix an error (due to the mirror) it indicates it found errors that it cannot repair. Correct me if mistaken.

That is possible, but I am not sure. There may be some algorithm where is can find errors even if it has nothing to compare to.

I know the usualy procedure when errors are found and cant be repaired is to run SFC 3 times and if it still does not repair, a repair install is suggested.
