will not go past post..

hello to you all,, when i switch my pc on . my screen says no signal, and then goes blank.. i have been told my pc will not go past post???? please could someone explain ..i am using an old pc at the moment ..many thanks martin ....

POST stands for Power On Self Test.

Your computer runs some tests before windows starts, hen will beep the error codes, or beep once for all good.

What happens when you push power? Fans spin, any lights on the front light up?

If absolutely nothing, its your power supply which died. If not, it could be lots.

Did yhou move it or bump it recently?

Is there a model number on the front? as "packard bell/ 6997220100" isn't the model.

Hopefully we can get you runnning again quickly.

hi patonb...sorryfor delay in getting back to you ..thanks for your swift reply...i managed to get power supply tested, and that seems all fine..then took it to pc world.when i mentioned it would not go past post ,they did:nt seem to want to know,.ihave been told it wpuld cost around £200 to fix.thinking of starting again whith brand new..oh!bye the way some more info____model type/utow_10 model name...imediax2414,,ms modeldv100,,, model no /pb80128501,.i look forward to your expertise...

You can try to remove the memory on the computer and check if the computer is making a beeping noise.

If yes, then install one memory at a time and check if the computer is able to boot.

If no, then reseat the other components like video card (if an external video card is present in the computer), sound card (if an external sound card is present in the computer), hard drive on the computer and check if it is able to boot. If you owner’s manual please refer to it.

Also, check all the cables are connected firmly on the motherboard on the computer.

If the computer is in warranty, you can contact the manufacturer so that they can replace the necessary parts on the computer.

If the power supply runs, and tests fine, we still have options. This could be as simple as the power button cable fell off.

I'd do as above suggested and check all the cables are properly plugged in. Mainly the big long 20/24 pin and the 4 pin thats square.

He could also try removing the CMOS battery and reinstalling.
