ive sort of run out of space!!

hi all
this is my problem. when i bought my laptop new, during setup i remember it asking me if i wanted to partition my hard disk which i did.
now i have ended up like this....
vista c 8mb free of 93.8gb
local dsk d 1.88mb free of 42.1gb
data e 43.6gb free of 48.8gb
in a previous thread of mine i was told to download and use minitool partition wizard which i did but it wouldnt let me increase c at the detriment of e
i ended up moving all my photos into e which kept me going until now but now im back where i was
i tunes is my biggest program with all my music and am wondering if it might be a good idea to put that into e drive but wouldnt know how to do it
whats my best way forward from here?
i am literally open to all ideas if they come with the support from your good selves
thanks

I don't know anything about the iTunes program but most Windows programs will let you specify where you want to install it. So, you could specify the E drive. Some program files will still be on the C: drive, out of necessity to work with Windows.

So, I would assume you would first uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it specifying the E drive during the installation.

Although inconvenient, you might consider getting an external drive to store your music and video.

Ok that's definitely doable. Any particular make or model. Would much rather take a recommendation.
It I bought one big enough, could I copy everything over to it and then format it?

My Computer

considering all the external hard drives out there, I can't make a specific recommendation. It should be NFTS and probably 1 Tb.

I think you've got it backwards. The hard drive should be formatted first (most come already formatted). then move your files to it.

Hi,
If you wish to format the laptop after data backup into the external Harddrive, here is a link for your reference to install windows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-vista.html

I am sure you would be aware that the data on the C drive would be erased during the Operating System re-installation, while the data on the other drives of the Harddrive would be intact.

What I would like is a factory set laptop, that must be my ultimate aim
Is it doable?
Today I will purchase a portable 1tb ext hard drive and take the first steps towards my goal with a bit of help from your good selves I'm sure

Just a side note- some computers have a recovery partition with the factory settings included. I don't know if you have that.

When you attach the external hard drive, Windows should automatically give it a volume designation.

I've never tried to drag and drop a partition to another drive. I went through the motions and it appears it would work (I didn't want to mess with my system by finalizing it). Somebody with more experience will have to provide guidance on that.

However, the idea is to store your images and videos on the external drive so that's what I would move. Obviously, you're going to need to tell iTunes where you're music files are to be stored (and thus retrieved from). Ditto for whatever program you use for videos.

Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset. Only ever used a laptop. Also use USB Freeview TV Card Lenovo Docking Station External Speakers Other bits a pieces as needed
Funny that. I've been trying to do the same thing with the Nero software which came with the ext. hard drive but after about half an hour it hangs and the PC won't respond.
Perhaps I'll have more joy with that software.
Incidentally, when it starts to copy C drive, a warning comes up that the drive is in use ( obviously) and it asks me to burn recovery disks?? and reboot using them
Ignore is an option, which I took btw, but should I be burning the disks?

My Computer

Hi bubblesaint,

You either can burn it on the disc or ignore the message and back-up the data on the external hard drive.

hi all
after the 'hanging' of the nero software, i decided to take advise from above and download the macrium software
i ran it overnight only to come down in the morning to find the program had stopped half way through and yet again, just like the nero software, the pc was un-responsive
any ideas whats going on?

My Computer

You should post your Nero problem in the Nero users forum.
