HP Shut Down Problem

Dear all

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop with Vista (32bit) OS. There is a problem in turning the machine off. If the power cord is connected to the laptop, it automatically restarts 2 seconds after shut down. So I have to wait until it shuts down to unplug the power cord immediately.

Do you have any suggestions to resolve this problem?

I've never owned a laptop. But if you don't get an answer on this board, this forum is great for anything HP:

I agree with MilesAhead. Once the computer has shut down, the operating system is no longer in play. It's the BIOS and hardware that has control, then the operating system once the initial boot up phase has finished.

When you select "Restart" from the Windows menu, your computer is given an instruction not to completely shut down and instead to restart once the operating system has been unloaded. Are you certain that the behavior is definitely a complete shutdown and then a mysterious re-start from what would appear to be a "power off" condition after 2 seconds? Try doing a "restart" from Windows and see how long the gap is from the operating system being unloaded. If the "shutdown" behaves identical, then somehow your shutdown is actually doing a restart. If you do notice a difference, then there's something up with your hardware and/or BIOS. And the HP support forums would be best for troubleshooting it.

One more thing, if you plug your computer back in, does it start up as if you pressed the "ON" button? Or does the computer stay off?
