"Internet explorer has stopped working" and so has everything else

I have Vista home premium, 32 bit all current updates. I seem to be unable to launch the Windows Internet Browser (IE8 at first and IE7). Kept having the message pop up everytime I tried opening a new internet explorer, only way I could was to have one open and use CTRL + N. I was watching a movie then it suddenly froze and couldn't open it ever since. I tried using a system restore to various earlier restore points. Nothing.. I have searched through posts and found nothing that helps. I tried it with add ons disabled, tried resetting Interner explorer still can not open Interner Explorer. Recently I have noticed that everything has stopped working, I get message pop up saying "Windows media player has stopped working".
I have noticed a peculiar process named cwwwxkwwwv.exe or something similar that keeps asking to be run? I always end the process? Any help on this would be really appreciated. Thanks

Hi I have tried to reset internet explorer and even tried to launch with no add-ons and it still does not open. The only way I have been able to open it is by running as administrator :( Is there any where I can download to scan for malware that I can trust.

Every time I open internet explorer it says internet has stopped working and then shuts it down. I also keep getting a message pop "Macrovision Software Manager Agent has stopped working". Any help please?

Yes the system restore was the first thing I tried. Thought it was something I had downloaded. I am on the internet now, running as administrator. I can get on safe mode.

Can you get to system restore?
If so, restore to a good time.

Tried safe mode didnt work. Tried without startup items still not worked. Even had a look at processes to see if anything looks odd..nothing. I think its something to do with adobe or media player as that was the last thing I was doing before all this happened.

I was getting the "internet explorer has stopped working" pop up but I ignored it because my internet was still working.

Somehow Internet Explorer has been compromised. It could be a plug-in from an install that you just did recently, or some other event that affects the way IE functions. Are you able to run Windows Explorer OK? If so, then that's a good sign, because they share a common core.

Is your Internet connection OK? You can try opening a command window and then do something like "ping google.com" and see if you get a response. If you do, then you've got Internet service.

Try starting Internet Explorer from the command line with extensions/add-ons turned off. You go to "run" and type "cmd". In the command window, navigate to the folder where Internet Explorer resides (C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer). Type "iexplore.exe -extoff". This should force all add-ons to be bypassed, in case one of them is tripping up Internet Explorer.

Im on then internet now somehow :/ last night I did a lot of "jiggery-pokery" lol and now my internet is on

I think you are correct. My side bar works and has been updating, but it does sometimes stop working. Windows explorer works fine without any hassle.

What I did (may help someone in the future): I went to system config (msconfig) swithced off all unknown Manufacturers from Startup. i.e. Software Manager, RealPlayer, KrnPykeg, DivX Update, Apple Push and Adobe Acrobat. Same from Services, there was a service called PACSPTISVR and Adobe Active File Monitor V5.

All my add ons are turned off. I uninstalled IE8 then installed all updates.

I still am getting this Windows Command Processor: cwikbmdmfqeitwww I found this in App Data \ Local \ temp so i deleted. It still keeps appearing. The only way I can open IE now is CTRL + N or by running as administrator.

If restore does not work, try this in safe mode. Then boot in regualar mode and see if it still works. If it works, startputting the applications back one at a time.
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup - Windows 7 Forums
Works the same in Vista.

Yes, thats the clean boot that you did.

Hi,

Thanks for the help, realised that is what I have actually done.

I cleaned up all the startup items I didn't recognise (which had unknown manufacturer) There was something called KrnPykeg or something which I have turned off.

Then uninstall everything, such as IE and adobe (completely got rid of Adobe). I got rid of the cwikdmbmwww.exe or what ever it was that was popping up from program files. (searched everywhere for what it could be)

Ran the Disk defragmenter. Then installed a virus checker. And finally re-installed everything and seems all perfect:) IE starts up with out any hassle and everything is working much faster.

Thank you:D
