I have done something to my windows media player where it now only shows a teeny square video. I downloaded something called Media Encoder 9 series which caused the problem. I'm since uninstalled it and also tried a system restore with no luck. When I open media player the message reads: media changing, codec acquired. How do I get this back to a full screen.

Here's a shot in the dark.

Download Gspot (it's free) and open Tables\Video Codes. If you can find the codecs installed by Media Encoder 9, you can search your hard drive for them and delete them. I don't know if they're listed in the Registry also.

You could also try uninstalling Windows Media Player, download the latest and then install it.

But I also recommend having a couple of alternatives. For AVI, WMV, and MPEG files, I heartily recommend VLC it works great for most things, except MKV. For minimal jitter with MKV files, DivX is one of the better players.
