Greetings...thank you for any help
Yesterday I had a mouse, Today no mouse
I am using Vista Home Premium on a HP Pavilion DV-5 laptop

I have tried rebooting numerous times still no mouse

Windows loads fine and keyboard works however I have no mouse with either USB or below mouse keyboard. I see the curser but cannot move the mouse

Same problem in safe mode, no mouse and cannot tab around the screen

I tried doing a system restore before windows loads but I cannot move the mouse or click on the restore options to begin the restore process.

I tried using the "tab" key to move around and that does not work either.

** Yesterday I ran a Avast boot scan and eliminated 12 infections and 3 were corupted "cab" files this may of corrupted the mouse driver files I believe.

How can I restore my system if I cannot choose restore options with the mouse and cannot tab either?... once again the mouse and tab will not work in safemode either..

Please help......Thank you

I would suggest going to the HP support website and downloading\installing the motherboard drivers. You might even check the BIOS.

Wither3, I assume you mean downloading motherboard drivers from the HP site from a second computer onto a flashdrive?....if so, then how would I access the flashdrive with no functioning mouse?

Bios has no mouse options either

UPDATE:
I plugged a 3rd USB mouse in and it works however I still have no mouse working below the keyboard .. I really don't want to do a system recovery because it will take me back to a point where the all of the corrupt and infected files were..

Now that I have a mouse would downloading motherboard drivers from the HP site be a good option and better than a recovery?

Since you have a laptop, I assumed your touchpad is working. You only said the mouse wasn't working.

The system restore would be less time consuming. If it's a mobo issue, I don't think that will fix it. Give it a shot.

Is your mouse powered by a battery?

Have you tried replacing the batterY?
