Solved sfc constantly reports corrupted files are repaired again and again and again...

I just solved this problem but I'm just writing this here in case it helps anyone.

Well while I was trying to solve another unrelated problem I decided to run sfc /scannow.

however when I ran it over and over it gave me the same message over and over: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

I was pretty perplexed as to why this was happening and ran memtest(14 passes) and HD diagnostics and all came back clean. I only found one another person complaining about the same problem who was just as perplexed as me. That was until I stumbled upon this thread here...

SFC failures after IE9 installed on 2008 x64 SP2

I checked my log and had the same entries as he showed and he had just installed IE9 from IE8. The solution as stated in that thread was to uninstall IE9 and then IE8 until it reverts back to IE7. Then install IE9 directly from IE7 by downloading the IE9 installer from online as IE9 wouldn't show up in windows update(since it wanted me to update IE7 first I guess). This worked perfectly for me.

I'm pretty surprised this is not a commonly reported problem but I guess since nothing is broken(i think it's just another Vista bug) no one is the wiser...I only found this because I was trying to fix another unrelated problem. I'm just glad the guy in the thread I linked did an sfc check after he installed IE9 or I would have never have solved this problem! Props go to that guy in that thread! :)

Once again We find ourselves doing Microfails dirty work...time they give some dividends to the people who solve their problems...
