minimize open folders in Windows Explore

When I open my Windows Explore in Vista by right clicking the Start button and clicking on Explore, the Navigation pane opens up with multiple folders expanded as oppose to only showing the minimum folders like only computer, C local drive , D drive and any optical drives. How can I configure my navigation pane to the most minimal folders shown?
BTW, I am working on my neighbor's computer.

To see the drives you should left click the start then left click computer

    Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset. Only ever used a laptop. Also use USB Freeview TV Card Lenovo Docking Station External Speakers Other bits a pieces as needed
OK, but that is only a work around, unless this is an inherent problem in Vista. I am aware of the Computer or My Computer method, but I was looking for it right clicking the Start button method.
