Solved I'm Administrator, Want to scf \scannow:"must be adminstrator with console session"?

Hi! I want to run the sfc \scannow and am able to do it on my other Toshiba with 7 but I am not sure why I cannot on my Toshiba with Vista. I am labeled as Administrator and I looked in the tutorials about assigning administrative rights but am still not sure what to do to get access to command prompts. I'm not a techie. I using Home Basic on a 32 bit . Sorry if I've posted wrong or without right information. Can someone just explain which is the least dangerous method of getting rights to my command prompts?

Hello Fofinha, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It just means that you will need to right click on the command prompt shortcut and click on "Run as administrator" to open a "elevated commmand prompt" first like in the tutorial below.

Ohhhh duhhhhh. Right. Thank you. But what I don't understand also is how do I get access to my CBS files? I keep trying to get in to them to see which files are corrupted and my access is denied also, yet on my Windows 7 I can waltz in and load anything I want to desktop to peruse it. I know this another duh factor. I keep trying to simply follow the file location as given by the command prompt box in order to see the log, and I search for it logged on as administrator but not from within the command prompt box as administrator. As you can see....I am kind of clueless but eventually I do achieve my goal. Am I missing a step? Do I have to make a "new" kind of elevated administrator account to get access to those logs? I tried to cut and paste the command to see the files from the tutorial but it doesn't say access denied, just doesn't do anything and goes back to C:\Windows\system32> or whatever it is.

Oh Fer F's SAKE! I swear I need to just give it up and go back to bed! Yes yes the !*#@ file is now on my desktop! I don't know what is wrong with me today please excuse me. My next hurdle is not having a vista installation dvd. For some reason my corrupt files (?) all seem to have this in them:

Kind of ironic. Since nothing looks terribly amiss I'm saying leave well enough alone. For all I know I buggered up the file myself!

Take a deep breath mate.

Click on the link I posted above, look at the yellow TIP box at the top of that tutorial, and upload your sfcdetails.txt file here.

eheheheh...I might just be a girl but I'm stubborn. I figure we learn from our mistakes. :D

My other Toshiba has a corrupted Attrib.exe.mui on it and I was hoping to practice on this old Vista laptop before I plowing into the other..hehehehe.

Well, from looking at your sfcdetails, only the file below was found to be corrupted. Luckily, it's just a txt file that has no importance for Vista to run without issue, and is nothing that you have to worry about.

:D You're so sweet for handholding with me! Where would be the proper place to ask for help with my other Windows7 error file on that attrib.exe.mui? Someone is messing with the laptop now so it's not in my possession. The only reason I am so after this thing is I swear trying to download Win7 service pack1 has driven me MAD! I am convinced the corrupted attrib.exe.mui has a hand in it. Not even a disk install of the damn thing could get past. I am convinced it was a bad install from Vista HomePremium to Windows7Pro and I am using as a learning tool instead of giving up for a reinstall.

I open mine by going to the start search box type cmd,
While holding CTRL and SHIFT press ENTER
opens as administrator
