Undo Diskpart Clean

I had Vista Home Basic 32bit installed on my Acer Extensa 5620z with a Hitachi HD which has 8gb as PQSERVICE and 56gb each as C: and D: drive.

I unknowingly used the diskpart clean command and now the PQSERVICE cannot be detected by it nor windows disk management. I did not delete it and am quite sure the data is still there as only 112 gb can be seen when I tried a fresh Vista install.

Someone here "rsvr85" had quite a similar case http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/211252-diskpart-mistake.html and he solved it by using the "Assign" command but did not mention specifically how.

Can someone please help me to retrieve this PQSERVICE partition? Thanks!

You cannot undo diskpart /cleanall! Once you have done it, the data is permanently deleted.

I did not issue a diskpart>clean all. Only diskpart> clean. It is a 120 GB disk with 8 GB PQSERVICE partition and now diskpart only shows 112 GB, so the partition is still there but cannot be seen by diskpart nor Vista disk management. I did not delete that partition. I tried Testdisk, Partedit32, EaseUS partition recovery, Minitool Power Recovery, downloaded MBRWRIN.EXE and RTMBR.BIN, issued a MBRWRWIN.EXE install RTMBR.BIN command but still cannot get it back. any more ideas please?:(

Hi,

Looking at the images, I would not want to suggest any action on the drive. The data on the FAT 32 section is described as "Lost" & I think that is due to the resizing of the drive sector table.

Have you lost any data or partitioned the drive etc. during this process (Other than the PQService drive)?

Of no consequence, as all my important data was already backed up and the only thing on C: drive was the the Vista OS. The PQSEVICE was completely inaccessible. I even booted with Windows 98SE CD and fdisk was displaying only 112 GB. So I booted with Vista into repair console, command prompt, diskpart>list disk>select disk 0> detail disk and still displaying only 112 GB. Finally I re-partitioned the 112 GB into 56 GB each, format NTFS and installed Vista Home Basic and thats it.

According to Microsoft here : DiskPart Command-Line Options

Clean :
Removes any and all partition or volume formatting from the disk with focus. On master boot record (MBR) disks, only the MBR partitioning information and hidden sector information are overwritten. On GUID partition table (GPT) disks, the GPT partitioning information, including the Protective MBR, is overwritten; there is no hidden sector information.

Hi,

It might be recoverable from the manufacturers own software.

What is the make & model number of the drive in question? (Seagate, Western Digital etc.)

As shown in my diskpart image > Hitachi, cannot remember model. Anyway, warranty expired and not worth it to pay for recovery. I'll explore other possible (free) solutions elsewhere.
