Restore Vista to SSD instead of HDD

So i got an ssd for my acerf 8930G, and want to put a fresh install/factory image onto it. I hve 2 drive locations in the laptop, so I want to keep the recovery on the platter drive but recover the vistsa onto the ssd.

Anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks WHS, I've read your guide, and infact a bunch f your ssd threads on a few different sites.

My question becmes, does the recovery stay on the platter drive?

And your methds still fine for 2 internal drives?

No need to move the recovery partition. Make images, that will be a better deal the day you have to restore your system.

Can you elaborate on the " 2 internal drive " question. Not sure I understand what you are looking for.

My laptop has 2 bays for hard drives. Meaning I put my ssd in the empty bay, and still have my old one in still.

If I remembr your Tut. you use a usb enclosure, clone the drive then switch the ssd into the laptop.

Oh I see. Laptops with 2 bays are so rare that one does not think of those. But of course you can use the second bay in lieu of an external enclosure. This is similar as the procedure one uses on desktops.

I got it done from your tutorial and video.

You've heard this before, but the video needs better sound... It would have saved me hours had i heard the linux boot disk doesnt do partions just entire drives.

Spoke to soon. The os transfered, but the msiexec is still pointing to my old drive, so when i try installing things it cant find/start the installer, yet the services cant start it.

Edit

So %windir% is reporting to my old C: install, now on H:

I regedited to get my msciexec back working, but I think i may have future issus if the old install is still being pointed too.
