Mouse turns off and on .. erratic behavior

Greetings!

About a month, month and a half ago I started experiencing my Logitech G5 mouse just turn off and then after a random amount of time turn back on. Doesn't not make for a good scenario when gaming especially in clutch moments.

The mouse is five years old and the fabric around the cord has frayed away and some of the plastic sheathing has stripped away as well. I'm figuring the the cord had a short in it. So I order a new mouse.

My new mouse a Cyborg R.A.T. 5. I must have gamed with the mouse for about a week, week and a half and then it started exhibiting similar behavior. It would turn off and not turn back on. I'd have to unplug the USB plug and then wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Some times it would work, sometimes it would not.

I've done the following:

• Full virus scan with nothing found
• Move the mouse (both of them) to the other three ports on the back of the PC and even the front two ports. Same behavior.
• 100% up to date drivers and software
• Searched fruitlessly for a solution

Any of the other devices plugged in act fine! And those devices would be a web cam (not in use), printer (not in use) and my keyboard.

I've attached my msinfo32 file. I had to pair down the windows errors and program hangs back to December. If you need the whole file just let me know.

Since it happened with two mice connected by USB, it sounds like either a USB connection problem on the mobo or the mobo itself. You should check the connections and, also, consider reinstalling your mobo drivers and possibly the BIOS.

I tried this already and I tried it again.. Useless! And all the other suggestions are for Win7.

I reinstalled the chipset drivers. And one would thing that if it were a mobo problem that I'd get a post code on start up or other USB devices would act flaky! Especially the keyboard.

I did how every boot on the linux side and use the mouse for hours uneventfully!!

This tells me something!

As of today ..

I worked on my linux partition for about five hours. Played a few linux games that are pretty mouse intensive. Got steam installed with WINE and loaded up Modern Warfare 3. That didn't go so good!

For those almost five hours the mouse didn't hiccup at all. No off and on at all!

Now I just on windows and it's doing the off and on thing several times in the course of a few hours. Is there anything I can do?? I'd rather NOT have to format C: and do it again, but it seems to be the yearly occurrence that something goes wrong in windows and needs to be re-installed.

Last years episode was IE9 didn't install properly and it ended up trying to install it and then revert it in this endless cycle.

I'm down for anything! The hardware is working fine! I just need to know what to do!

I don't know what drivers Linux uses when you boot it on a mobo with Windows drivers. You could try the BIOS. Or, you could go into Device Manager\USB Controllers\USB Root Hub and double click on it. Select Driver\Driver Details to see which driver it's using. Mine is using the USBD.sys. Or you could try updating all the USB drivers.

Must have missed a part of that 'what to do' and the part I missed was to create a new user account.

I did that .. created a new user account and connected my new mouse and it worked flawlessly. For tonight, lets see what happens after a few days.

Question is .. how can I sanitize my user profile?? Cause something is corrupt in it to cause a mouse problem.

Edit: by sanitize I mean .. get the junk out of it that causing the problem.

Ideas?

There is not sure fire "sanitize" of the System, but this would be your best bet

In addition, download, Macrium Reflect, make an image of your OS. If you update it whenever necessary, you will be able to use the Macrium Image to restore your computer, whenever you have a problem that cannot be resolved using normal procedures.

I have this set inside windows already as a scheduled item. I've only used restore point once.

I don't have the time, nor the resources to keep making system images. I have about 2/3 of a 1TB drive full. Sorry I'm not going to be spending oodles of dollars on DVD's and I don't have the $$ for big external drive to just host images. Hey if they can get the images down to 100-500MB I'm down for it!

I don't visit site that I don't know anything about. I'm not a 'oh, look at this link *click*' kind of guy!

I don't believe in reg cleaning and optimizing software. That was the one big feature that they finally got right in Vista and going forward. Unfortunately, they still haven't gotten it were it can just keep the registry clean by itself. Which brings us to CCleaner, which I haven't run in a long time. I don't even have it anymore that I may take a look at.

All the software I use have updating features. And I do mean ALL!

What's the sense to make an image once a month if your going to backup once a month? Bit of overkill there. I just backup my photos to my NAS and dropbox, my music to my NAS and media server and my documents and any other 'extra' stuff goes up on dropbox and on my NAS.

But .. you missed my question 100%. What I said is ...

I don't want to sanitize the whole windows set up. That's working fine as proved by creating a new profile. What I want to know is .. how to clean up my current user profile. The one that has been giving my this mouse grief!

I just don't want to back up the whole profile and then whack UserData and AppData and it doesn't do a thing. I don't mind loosing some info which is fine. Since I can backup with Mozbackup my Firefox and Thunderbird.

I appreciate the time you took to tap all that out though. But the above is what I really want to know! =)

Hello.. you may just have to make another user account . Sometimes they do get corrupted and , unless someone knows of a way to repair that..

Make a new user account and copy some of the items across if no problems copy a few more etc until you find the block causing the problems.
You could also try a system file check to be sure all is well there.
