Solved Windows Vista - When does support end ?

I have a laptop with the Windows Vista Home Premium OS. The reputable UK magazine ComputerActive, Issue No 364 states that Microsoft will not support Vista after April, 2012. Is this correct ?
If so, what should I do ? I am new to compter use, only starting in 2009, and would still class myself as a 'novice'. I have gathered that a lot of people did not like Vista, but I have found it to be OK, presumably because that is what I have learned on.
Any information and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

What is the difference between mainstream support and extended support?
  • Mainstream support—Microsoft will offer mainstream support for a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product's general availability, or for 2 years after the successor product is released, whichever is longer. For example, if you buy a new version of Windows and five years later another version is released, you will still have two years of support left for the previous version.
  • Extended support—Microsoft will offer extended support for either a minimum of 5 years from the date of a product's general availability, or for 2 years after the second successor product (two versions later) is released, whichever is longer. Please note: Extended support is only available for commercial customers.

Thanks for all the explanations. I really don't care if they don't update it anymore. I assume that MSE is independent of that so, in a way, we'll still have some protection.

MSE is a separate product to Windows - MCE is only an edition of XP
<pedant mode OFF>

MSE will continue to be supported in Vista as it is in Windows XP - but possibly installation will only be possible in SP2 .

Yes that's what I meant. MSE may be separate but it is still from microsoft and they have right to prevent the current version from being used on unsupported versions of Windows. So when XP is done in 2014 I think they will say that that they will not do any further updates to MSE on XP computers and stop releasing database updates on unsupported versions of MSE. Although XP users will still have a functioning version of MSE on their computer they won't be getting any signature updates so it won't be able to scan for newer viruses. I'm sure that the same thing will happen in 2017 when Vista goes out of support.
