Solved Host process RUNDLL32 has stopped working

I have had this issue with flash player since May when they introduced Flash Player 10 (May Release) with the new settings Manager that can be accessed from your own control panel. However I have never been able to use because as soon as i click on it it crashes and causes an error host32.dll has stopped working. I have tried all the obvious Solutions, uninstall/reinstall/clear cache.

None of these have worked for me so I have kept digging and today I noticed that Clashplayer CPLApp that appears to control this new control panel settings manager has a weird location in properties relating to 'google chrome' On my other system XP: I dont have this issue it works perfectly and the location of the file is C:Windows\ system 32.
Google Chrome was loaded on the system when I got it, it has never been used by me and now saya no up-to-date files. So I havent changed anything there. Flashplayer worked fine until May and I have always used IE8 on both XP and vista. Vista makes me scratch my head until I have a bald patch!!
Where has this google location come from and what can I do about it.... all suggestions welcomed... Do I rename the location, delete it, uninstall chrome??????Thank you. If you need any specific information, please ask and I will Edit accordingly

If you don't intend to use Google Chrome, just uninstall it.

I should mention there is now AFP 11.

As long as you run 2 Threads you will get conflicting suggestions, you really need to just use one . Your issues are all related .

You're correct.

I wonder, however, if he actually got Chrome uninstalled?

You could search for rundll32 on your drive and delete all instances except the one in C:\Windows\System32.

OK: I am no expert when it comes to files and folders so I hope this is sufficient information:

I have located 4 files:

1.Rundll32.exe.mui
Type of File: (.mui)
Opens with: Windows Shell Common
Location: C:\Windows\System32\en-US

2. Then an exact duplicate of the above
BUT Loation is:.C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-rundll32.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_en-us_4a94c0c49c79ab3d

3.Rundll32
Windows Host Process (Rundll32)
Type: Application
Location: C:\Windows\System32

4..Again an exact duplicate of the above
BUT Location: C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-rundll32_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_d5ce8f93adff8210

I am OK with adding and removing programmes, downloading etc. But a little nervous when it comes to deleting files and folders. If any need deleting will they go in the recycle bin so I can restore them should something crash? Or will they just DELETE as in gone?

Sorry I am not an expert as I said, or I wouldnt be seeking help, but do try my best.

Thanks for your time

I would leave all those instances alone. I thought you might find some outside of the Windows directory.

Thank you for your continued help - it is appreciated

so far I have uninstalled Google chrome and all its related files.

I have run a full McAfee scan - nothing there

I have been told to run regedit, but I will not do this, I dont know enough about it. I will dabble with anything I think I can easily put right but tampering with the registry system is a no no for me

I seem to have large large numbers of flash files and folders and install and uninstall PF Files - I thought about just dumping the whole lot in the trash bin and trying again. If I did this is it a real disaster or could I just restore them if it caused a real system havoc?

You are no doubt getting to grips with the fact that I am anxious to get this Flasplayer working and getting no where really. What I dont get is that on my XP System I have never had an issue.

I appreciate your help and advice - Thank you for your continued suport

When you installed AFP 11, did you get the right version for your Vista? There's a 32 bit and 64 bit version.

Have you tried a clean startup?

As we mentioned earlier, it's hard to keep track of two different threads on the same subject. Maybe I should stop asking questions in this thread.

Thanks for replying once again - I am new to the forum as you know and when I get an email saying you have responded I tick on post reply - if I am doing something wrong please tell me - I do not bite. I am unsure - do I edit the thread or post a reply- sorry if I am messing up.

I have Vista 32 bit and installed AFP11 for Vista 32bit

Now please do not RAOTFLOL ( Roll about on the floor laughing out loud) but I have no idea how to do a clean satartup in Vista - what is it and how do I do it I would need an A_Z Guide if you know what I mean

to do a clean startup-

run msconfig.exe

Under Services, checkmark the box "Hide all Microsoft.....". Then click on disable all.

In the Startup tab, stop all items listed.

Reboot.

I spent today working with malwarebytes, Ccleaner, chkdsk, defragment. Uninstall, reinstall and finally got there. The Laptop is running error free and at the speed of light.

Thank you to all those members who have given me advice and assistance, it is appreciated. As a new menber I have been overwhelmed - cheers...... :)

I want that "speed of light" computer. I guess the Intel intent to use light for data transfer is on hold right now.
