I had a problems with my system and before having to have it rebuilt I backed up files onto an external HDD. On connecting the drive and trying to copy the files back over the folder display that the file size is over 3.02GB with 2500 files and 309 folders, yet when i go into the folder windows just displays that 'this folder is empty' any help much appreciated TIA Sam

transferring 3 Gb of files takes some time. Did you get the progress screen during the transfer and did it complete?
In addition, which view are you using in Windows Explorer?

Thanks for the replies guys. I've tried plugging a laptop with Windows 7 into the external hard drive to look at the folder, which gives the same info.
Vista is fully up to date also.
It's like the files are hidden or cannot be displayed made due to a different file system??? i don't know??? When i access the properties of the folder and hange permissions and apply it, I can see the permissions being applied to the folders that should be there, but still cannot see or access them???
Driving me nuts and getting me grief from the other half!!!!
Is there any way a 'file repair' can be run on a folder?

Which anti-virus program are you using? Sometimes, the security aspects of those programs can cause stuff like this.

With this happening on 2 separate systems I'm concerned that something is wrong with the hard drive or the file system. However try Lottiemansion's suggestion as to unhiding file.
