Hello
I have an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop with Vista Home SP2.
I want to replace the harddrive with a bigger one but I am having trouble cloning the harddrive. The new one is a WD
There are three partitions on the old drive. 1. C drive, 2. data drive and 3. Hidden recovery partition.
The drive cloned. But there are errors with windows updates saying the service is not running.
Some one I spoke to says that vista has a system partition that doesn't always clone properly, hence the errors. And I should do a fresh install.
Originally, I had created an image of the whole drive (old one) first with Acronis (with my Hirens 9.8 CD) then I restored the image to the new drive.
Then I tried to do a factory reset with the new imaged drive but I got a type mismatch error.
Not sure what is the best way.
Am I doing something wrong?
I don't want to end up with a system with errors.
If I just use a generic (if that's the right word) vista disk I won't have all the acer drivers installed or any of the acer software.
Thanks
Ford
