Solved Problem with full hard drive

Just done a factory default on an older Compaq CQ61 laptop - cloned it for safeties sake and then it started baulking at downloading Windows updates.

Got a pop up message to say the drive was just 1.5Gb shy of full (140GB drive)!

Am just wondering what could be wrong as it is a factory default and I cleaned out most of the bloat, just added some security CC and Revo and it's chockers! Not to mention running real slow. Defragging has done nothing, and scans come up with nothing either. Click on Open and there seems to be only the program files and the usual stuff. As a side issue the clone to an external drive also showed the full "red" bar in C: but as has been pointed out to me that is probably down to some "ordinary" partitioning.

So does anyone have any idea what could be clogging this machine up??

I can't give you any specifics but, when I partitioned a 500 Gb hard drive into three partitions, the smallest partition it would let me use for the C: was 326 Gb because of the paging files. It didn't matter to me so I left it alone.

I didn't look at the computer management in Control Panel to see how to minimize those and get back your hard drive space. Maybe I'm on the wrong track.

Hiyya wither found what the problem was - the machine was making auto backups of the sytem onto the same drive ending up with the drive being filled to almost capacity.

Deleted the backups from the folder (in fact the whole folder) and everything back to normal.

Don't know why that occurred as the backup system was set to back up on demand as it were. Maybe it was something that I was doing wrong (highly likely) as I had been on three machines at once doing clones and backups at the time.

The cloned drive I did the same thing and partitioned it properly with a Partition Wizard.
