Laptop has a double image on the screen

I was playing a game on my laptop and it froze, then the screen split into a duplicate, one on top of the other. I rebooted and now the laptop has two completely functional, duplicate screens, complete with identical mouse pointers. I can click everything, navigate and all that, though it is a little blurry.

What would be an effective way of addressing this issue?

Hello, why not try to get rid of temp files, use Ccleaner or disk cleanup in your system tools .

If you have a restore point from right before the system froze, I would try that. It's probably a setting in the registry causing split screens. I'm just guessing. I've always had desktop PCs. But a recent restore point shouldn't hurt. Just copy off any new files you may need to something else if you have external drive or whatnot.

One shot might be see if the GPU card or chip maker has a forum. If it happened to you it probably happened to someone else. I'm not familiar with laptop video settings. I know it has stuff that desktops don't. Most manufacturers have some kind of web forum as it's a cheap way to provide support.

This is the most relevant post I found. Seems to be problematic with LCD laptop displays. If you can afford a technician and don't like messing around inside equipment might be better to take it for repair. If you're do it yourself person then take a look:

I have exactly the same problem. The screen is horizontally split and two images of the fully functional screen displayed one on the other. I tried changing the settings, restore points, reinstalling windows etc. nothing works. actually the display screen is split at the startup even before windows is loaded. So even if I try DOS or Ubuntu or other OS the problem remains the same. I am too much worried without knowing what to do. I would be grateful if anybody has found a solution to it.
