My system is Acer Aspire T180 Vista 32bit. I recently had a problem where as i was redirected from any search engine to other sites like Ebay, Amazon etc. I tried free Malware cleaners and they all found several problems and deleted the files only to be returned on rebooting. Eventually i found Kaspersky do a free TDSS Killer which worked fine and all is now well apart from files left by Stopzilla. On start up i get this
"the feature you are trying to use is on a cd rom or other removable disk that is not available insert the stopzilla disk and click ok
Error 1706 no valid source could be found for product stopzilla the windows installer cannot continue" I deleted all the Stopzilla files in the Registry that i could see. I have run Registry Cleaners and CC Cleaner and have also reinstalled Stopzilla and uninstalled it but the problem remains It is not in Processes or Startup. Can anyone help please. Its no big deal just a nuisance. I dont want to do a system restore in case i get the original problem back and cannot get rid of it Thanks.

Welcome
Do not run any registry cleaners (except maybe Ccleaner) either before or after a problem, they may make it worse. The only way to fix a registry problem is with a System restore or if your registry has been backed up, use the back up. Other than that for a serious problem a reinstallation is required, sorry for the bad news.
On the other hand, if the problem is not registry, an SFC will fix most OS corruption problems. We do wish you luck

I have just checked my System Restore function and unfortunately the only restore points are from Today. There were more there the last time i checked. I wonder if the virus is wiping out the restore points. I may have to do a Factory Reset. Is it possible that a reg cleaner could wipe the files needed for a system retore?

Some virus do delete restore points, so that they cannot be easily removed.
Try restore, again. When you see the dates, in bottom, left, look or a box show more dates. If it is not there a factory restore may be the answer. If it is, give me the make and model of your computer. If you have stuff to save, post and I will explain how to use Ubuntu to save the stuff.
Reg cleaners can do all kinds of nasty stuff. When you are up and running, ask and I will show you how to maintain the computer correctly.

When i first had the problem with redirections, i saved all my precious stuff and put it on an external hard drive. I am one of the lucky ones with a medium knowledge of computering. I feel sorry for people that are taken to the cleaners money wise because idiots put viruses in downloads and i have fell for this myself. I am too trusting in Appliactons such as Mcafee, you think theres no way you will be infected. Thanks to you all.

The rule to try and stay safe is to use an anti virus, firewall, and malwarebytes, but most important common sense. For those not as knowledgable as some of the others, download only from trusted sites or ask us. The best of luck to all.

Hi Townsbg, You may have seen in my earlier post there is no folders or files in startup or registry that have Stopzilla as a name. I can account for all the programs in startup. In the registry there may be a file under another name that belongs to the company that is not named as a Stopzilla file. I will do a factory reset, unless anyone has had the same problem with Stopzilla and can enlighten me.

Try uninstalling all of the gadgets. One of them must be the culprit.
