Cleanup of SP1 & SP2 Files - Is It Done Yet?

Hello,

I own a computer already imaged by the manufacturer Toshiba. It came with no media (CDs or DVDs) but it does say it is SP2.

In the extremely large (9 GB) winsxs folder, I have both the vsp1cln.exe and compcln.exe files.

Q: Should I assume these have been run? Any harm in doing either again?

I am looking to reclaim as much hard drive space as I can. If you have any other ideas on how to accomplish this, I look forward to hearing them.

Bottom line, dont touch winsxs. This file is used as a conduit for two other files. It should not be tampered with.
If you want to clean your files. Download and use ccleaner
Use the diskclean included with your OS
Make sure that you click on clean system files when you do the diskclean.

Rest assured that I have NO intention of trying to manage these files/folders manually. There is plenty of literature steering me away from doing that. I even saw where I should steer away from a program called winsxslite.

If I had a spare system here I would try it but I would be foolish to do so on a live, working one.

If you uninstall programs Windows "might" eventually reclaim that space.
