Mouse lag - need help - very irritating!!!

Hello and welcome to the Forums, have you tried another mouse ? How about Device manager, update driver for it ? Post back if you tried that and it still lags please.

I changed the mouse to a laptop and it appears to work fine. I have another older usb optical mouse that works well. I also in a different usb port. Is it possible the port may have "gone bad?"

Well, you tried same mouse on another computer, you tried another port using another mouse, So, if the original mouse works in another port ,but, not the original port, then yeah, must have become bad/faulty somehow, you said you verified drivers. Maybe somehow the connection came loose, a repair shop can check it for you. But , as long as the other usb ports are working, then not much else you can do.
