How do I disable Other User Account in Vista and retrieve Administrator account?

HELP!!! I've accidentally had Control Alt Delete on my Logon Screen. And from my laptop, I couldn't type it in with my keyboard, so I have to use Ease of Access and use the On-screen Keyboard. From there, it had a "Other User" Account which asks for a username and password, which I don't have because THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I've encountered an "Other User" Account.

I don't know how to retrieve my administrator account. I've been guessing several usernames and passwords for the "Other User" account (even my admin. username and password) but no luck.

PLEASE HELP!! IM REALLY DESPERATE.

Hello, wow , i have never seen this before, here is an idea, couldn't hurt to try it : force a shutdown by pressing the power button, it will then shut down, Then restart it, it should go to the F8 screen automatically, see if you can enter into the restore or repair functions or last known working configuration. Just a thought. Post back results please.

If you hit control + alt + delete you'll get the logon prompt. To disable it:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options. Find and double click on Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL. Make sure it is set for enabled and then ok. You shouldn't have this anymore.

@YardDog- I've been trying that since last night but it all ends up on the same thing: the OTHER USER ACCOUNT


@Townsbg- I coudn't access control panel or any of that for the matter as long as I am stranded with the Other User account.

I really dont know what the user name and password of this "Other User". I didn't even know it existed. All I know is my administrator account.

This is a new one on me, ya know , i tried to see what Townsbg mentioned, and i did not see those files that he mentioned, but, it you can not get off that page , you are not going anywhere, Do you have a dvd from when you got your OS or when you bought the computer ? I wonder if you have acquired some malware/virus ? If you have access to another computer that can burn a dvd/cd for you, you could try this . You would have to have BIOS ( F2 ) on most computers set for boot from cd/dvd first . Make a cd/dvd of or maybe a flash drive ? check this out . How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to scan and remove malware from your computer and then check this : It is possible that the infection you are trying to remove will not allow you to download files on the infected computer. If this is the case, then you will need to download the files requested in this guide on another computer and then transfer them to the infected computer. You can transfer the files via a CD/DVD, external drive, or USB flash drive.
Try this and see if malware/virus has the computer infected . Post back results

If you hit control, alt, and delete at the same time (which is what that message is saying to do) then you should get to your regular login page. Then you can follow my instructions to disable ctlr+alt+delete.

I was able to use that setting to get the same prompt and following my instructions worked.

it seems you can type in your user name & password, it should be accepted as a valid user account.

alternatively the built-in admin account is "administrator" with no password. the built in admin account is part of the OS, and it has total control of the system, does some things a user admin can't. its best to not use the built-in admin account unless its an emergency like this.

You can always drop by Best Buy and see what the Geek Squad thinks of this. they do basic diagnostics for free now!
