Solved computer newbie here...clipboard troubles...

Hope I'm posting this in the right forum. I am very new to the computer world & absolutely am not savvy in anyway. The little I know I have taught myself. My problem is I am trying to learn how to capture screen shots using PRTSC key....my problem is that I have an image in my clipboard which somehow I managed to put there via snip tools....now I can't seem to replace that image with a new one...I have tried the manual option to delete something from clipboard when I type in cmd/c"echo off | clip" I get a window telling me something to the effect file can't be found...I've tried this with spaces and without the spaces....and nothing is happening....I also tried the download option and again nothing happen....so I think I deleted it since it wasn't working for me.....Please help a newbie to the computer world. Thanks so much for any & all feedback & help.:)

Go to search type snipping tool, you will love it
Search by the start button.
Just make a new image the old one will be gone.

To be honest, I dont use prntscrn. I think that clipping tool is much better. Thats why they included it.

Also IrfanView has built in screen shot capability. It's nice to have anyway as a fast graphics manipulation program. There are many clipboard apps around for free. Another is ScreenshotCaptor

Most 3rd party clipboard tools will let you set the Print Screen key as the hotkey.

Hi, i happen to have a Vista Home Basic, so, i get no snipping tool, and thus , i use the prt scrn button, and it goes basically like this > press prt scrn , immediately go to paint in your start key, all programs, accessories, and you will press the edit button, then the paste button, then go to file and press save as, name it, then press save, then go to your pictures folder and you will see it. I posted this just in case you wanted to know how i do it. I wish i had the snipping tool, oh well, maybe one day i will get an upgrade. * sigh *

Snipping tool is considered and only in higher priced editions. I think you are better off with that.

I also use snipping tool; I have a short cut for it on my quick launch. I didn't know that it is available on XP as a power tool. I also didn't know that it's not for Basic. Typical M$. One thing I'd like to add about print screen is that alt printscreen just captures the highlighted window and not your entire screen.

I just tried snipping tool. It is simple, which is good. It would be better if they implemented Control-z undo though. You smudge it you dis-own it. :(

edit: my bad. Didn't try Eraser when I posted that. Thought I'd have to trace over the same track to rub out but it just seems to make the edit disappear. Still, it would be a nice mod if they incorporated Control-z to undo without going to the menu. Also would be good if you could type in text instead of drawing every letter.

Just for quickie I agree. Although for doing help images such as for program form screens the balloon thingie where you can type in text looks useful. If I ever get around to doing it. I did HtmlHelp for one of my apps before. Trouble with using images every time you add a button or make a visible change you have to run off another whole series of screen shots. Then if you're doing HtmlHelp, insert the new images with any annotations, compile the .chm again. Real pita. :) It might be easier if you have $300 for an editor that does it all for you. But using free tools it's a chore.

The official snippet tool for XP is only for the Tablet edition. :( Again, typical M$.
