No Documents/Pictures etc

Hi there,

I recently restored my laptop to factory settings using the Dell disk as the laptop was given to me. Everything has loaded up properly, and seems to be working fine except My Documents/Pictures etc!

I can open it if i go C/Users/Me/Documents but the Documents link on the start menu does nothing, neither does the Pictures or Music!

Has something gone wrong in the Factory Reset?? Please help, this is urgent!!

Try opening Command Prompt as an administrator and running sfc /scannow and reboot when it's done. It may take a while. That should probably fix it.

    Usually have low HD free space left (<10 GB), often left on overnight. I really push its capabilities.
I found command prompt, typed in the command and it said "you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility" i havent got a clue what this means! there is no other users so does that mean in automatically admin or not? how to i become an administrator if not??

Sorry for the questions but this is my first ever time using vista and i havent got a clue :(

But it wont run sfc because im not running a "console session"?? Im completely brand new to vista and have been using xp before, so am not used to any of this!

That thread explains what happens when you run sfc, but its useless because mine wont run!

Found it!! i didnt open CMD in Admin, just normal user XD i'll reply when its finished

Run it 3 times, if it has errors that it cannot fix.

ive run it 3 times, and every time it comes up with exactly the same as what i posted a couple of posts ago, next step?

The next step would be a repair intall, but you need an Vista DVD for that. You can post the log, we have someone here who may be able to help.

However, first, please: Elevated Command Prompt

and then type this, followed by enter: fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\

However, at the end of the day, to fix the underlying cause, what I need is the whole CBS.log:

Please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

ive done the command prompt bit and that finished but how would i do the second bit?? Im sorry about the questions, but as i said im 100% new to vista :( i found the folder you wanted, right click>copy but now what?

You go to that location in your computer, then just do what it says. Once its zipped you can send it here. Once its zipped if you have problems we can help to get it here.

Yeah but the thing is, the only thing it will let me send it to is DVD RW Drive (F:).

When you right click you do not have send to compressed file?

If you did it correctly,it sounds like another problem that you are having with your computer.
