Solved Attaching 2 optical drives help!

Hi
I have 2 ide optical drives, a CD-ROM and a DVD-RW. When I plug the DVD-RW in set up as a master drive my computer recognizes it and it works fine.
When I plug the CD-ROM in under a slave drive neither of the drives are recognized and don't work.
From what I understand 1 needs to be a master and the other a slave, which I have done and they don't work. I know they both work fine because I have checked them on another of my computers.
Any ideas?

Set the drive on the end of the cable to master and the drive in the middle to slave and it should work. this will work on most motherbords even if they were set to cable select to start with.

ye, i've done this and still doesn't work. I've tried putting them to cable select but still no joy.
Any ideas?

Try another cable.

Hi,

Try them on the same cable connection point, to see if they are recognised individually.

What other details do you have? Make & model for the drives etc. etc..

Thanks for your help but i've sorted it out. I just updates the BIOS and it all worked. Can't figure out why that should actually change things but its working anyway.

Glad it works, sometimes the bios or the chipset drivers get messed up. :geek:
