Movie Maker won't work

Hello. Movie Maker crashes when I try to publish.

Here is the error message when I try to publish.

I am using Vista Home Basic, 32bit

I've tried using title screen only, jpg only.
I've tried using previously successfully published projects that use the same .avi format that I am using now (from the flip phone, after using FFDShow).
I have tried unchecking codecs ending in .ax.
I've tried downloading new MM 2.6 but it won't let me use my current file because "version is not supported."
I have no restore points.

Any help is appreciated.

Assuming you meant Windows Movie maker

Convert your avi or any other video formats to WMV formats > import them back to movie maker, and publish.

Suggestions :

1. Do a system file check to look for corrupt files. If found, it will try to repair them.

2. If system file check does not solve the problem, run a disk check.
Start button > in the search box, type cmd > look up to top left, right click at cmd.exe > click Run As Administrator > at the black and white window, at the flashing prompt, copy and paste this command line ..... chkdsk /f/r
> press Enter key > you will see a message that says it cannot do it right now, but do you want to do it at restart ( I am paraphrasing ) > type Y as in yes > press Enter > exit cmd wind > restart your computer.

Disk check will start running at startup > do not shut the computer down > it will take quite some time > just wait > the computer will restart when it is done.
