"Freezing" Mouse Pointer..bad shut down.

Hi Forum,
Some advice regarding above which is happening too often for comfort. When this occurs I have to perform a "disruptive shutdown". What could be causing this ?
The only changes to my system is to facilitate YouTube downloads for which I have downloaded DVD Video Soft suite and the Combined Community Codec pack. Could this be causing this ?
I have Win Vista Home Premium (64 bit) and am going to change to Windows 7 as I am fed up with that slow moving Vista. Should I opt for the Upgrade or the Full version ? There seems to be a lot of differing opinions here. I feel the move may free from these annoying Vista foibles.

To be on the safe side make a full anti virus scan and download and make a full and updated scan with malwarebytes.

Check mouse drivers
If wireless try with corded mouse
When you have problem, see if you can check memory usage on task manager.
Look for errors in event viewer.

To answer your other question. If you have Vista, always go with the upgrade Seven. We can show you how to install to make it just like the full retail, but at 50% less cost.

Thanks, Richard. Firstly, I do not use a "mouse" but have a wireless one which I use to check. This did not work when I tried it and the Touch Pad driver is up to date. Anyhow, the unit is back working at the moment.
Would you send me a link,please, about how to do the 7 Upgrade in the manner you suggested. Thanks again for your,as always, good advice. Peter

When I went from Vista to Seven, I used the tutorial plus I went to you tube saw the whole process. It was a good secure feeling to know exactly what the next screen would look like.

As soon as you get home with your computer:

Dont install the antivirus software that pops up with instuctions to install.
Should be done at the end and this software, although probably free for a while,
will cost money down the road and is probably not the best.

Windows updates should be done immediately as you are vulnerable to problems
until updated; be sure to include office updates.

Adobe reader should be updated, the most recent version is a sandbox version which
reduces virus vulnerablity to your PDF files.

This is also the opportunity to download Adobe Flash Player

Download an alertative browser; ie FF or Chrome etc. In the event of problems with IE.

Remove any unwanted program bloat. They will slow up your computer and probably
cost money in the future.

Download your antivirus; Microsoft Security Essentials is suggested.

Make your recovery disc.

Now enjoy the internet.

10 Tips on How to Properly Maintain Your Computer

Steps that I did not notice on the guide include:

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner about once every two months. Untick any registry entries.

Be sure to back up your hard drive about once a month (varies by user) and to keeep system restore points up to date.
