password help needed

my son has forgot his password on his lappy so i have taken out his hard drive and using a usb sata hdd bridge cable on my pc i can see all his files and folders but i cant find the folder to change or remove his password as ive all ready tryed every thing when the hard drive was inside his lappy now i am at my witts end as he needs his school work from the hard drive also we dont have any back up cds for it also we need to get the lappy back up and working many thanks inadavce for your help sorry but iam new to all this

Administrator account was asking for a password as well when the hdd was in the lappy thats why i now have used a usb to sata bridge cable to get in to the hdd from his lappy its the only way of me getting into his hdd his lappy is a acar aspire 5315 i also tryed holding down alt and f8 keys and doing a whole back up but its asking me for a password still ive tryed the 000000 password but its stil not having it so now iam looking for the folder that holds the user passwords and Administrator account pass words as the hdd in now open on a usb sata bridge cable and i can see the folders by using my pc and i need to find the folder that i can change the passwords so i then can put his hdd back into his lappy so it will work once again but many thanks for your help so far

I do fully understand and appreciate the fact that passwords must be protected its not that i cant see all his info in the hdd as i got it open on my pc and i am looking at all the info sorry i know i sounds rude but iam not meen it to be rude is just its the joys of a teen buging me to get his lappy working again after his forgot his password what joys of being the one to having to fix things 24/7

Are you able to see the contents of his document folder (I trust that's where he's saved his files)? If so, copy it onto your system under a suitable name (e.g. Laptop) so that you know what it is. Then you can do a factory reinstall on the laptop, and then copy the files back over.

factory reinstall is asking for a password as well its powered by empowerion technology i ve tryed the 000000 pass code that i found on a site but to no joy i have not come across a factory reinstall what needs a password before

richc46 the 3 in the tutorial is very usefull but not in my cace sadly to say as the lappy empowering technology had a dam password on it what stops me from doing any of the steps

tryed that allready its asking for a password for empowering technology b4 it can do the restore i look on sites and its ment to be six 000000 but ive tryed that to no joy Gggggggggggggggggg :mad:
