Super lag

Hey everyone!
I had my computer for two years and it's starting to run slow.
I've checked it for virus & it came out clean.
Can someone tell me what's going on?
please help.

Windows vista Home premium 64-bit
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3400 @2.16Hz
4G of RAM

not sure what other spec to put.

This tutorial is a bit " long-winded ", but very thorough. Please read it over......

Short of upgrading your hardware, I'd just follow that guide and focus on unwanted programs you can delete and the startup programs. Those are the ones that cause me the biggest performance lag. Mouse over the icons in your system tray and exit/uninstall any that you don't need or don't want running; remember to remove them from the startup list in (in that "long winded" tutorial) so they don't pop back up as soon as you restart you PC. Also, see if your virus scanner is currently running a full scan, as this will take a lot out of your system until it's done. Oh, and the last problem I had with performance? I changed the power plan. Make sure that's not set to power saver or anything :)

    Usually have low HD free space left (<10 GB), often left on overnight. I really push its capabilities.
What did you scan for viruses with?

I would use Super Antispyware
and Malwarebytes

    Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset. Only ever used a laptop. Also use USB Freeview TV Card Lenovo Docking Station External Speakers Other bits a pieces as needed

I used Microsoft security essentials and i found nothing.
i also used Malwarebytes and clean.

Hi...
Question??? Do you download of programs, and intalled them????Maybe They might be in your startup and running in the background and you dont even know it. There are alot of programs that take up lots of space on your cpu usage..Go to MSCONFIG and disable the ones you dont want starting up when you load up your computer...
